Your vibes speak louder than your words

When I heard this quote from Gabrielle Bernstein, I knew straight away it would become the motto of my company, Souls on Stage. In the past five years I’ve specialised in public speaking coaching & training, and along the way I decided to add life coaching and body awareness to that recipe. 

Why? Because the ‘vibes’ of the speaker ultimately determine the resonance and impact he or she creates with the audience. Of course it’s important that you have a clear message backed up with a strong ‘why, what and how’. And we all want to appear confident and relaxed on a stage. So yes, we work on that. But the way to get there is not through a quick fix and some tips & tricks (it’s tempting, I know).

If you truly want to be at ease speaking in front of a group, the key is: find the connection. Find the connection between you and your story, you and your audience, and you with yourself. At Souls on Stage we call this the 'Triangle of Connection'. If you manage that, the audience will recognise you as walking your talk, and talking your walk. A recent example of this is Marianne Williamson, who impressed friend and foes with her strong presentation at the second Democratic primary debate on 30 July in the run to the 2020 U.S. presidential elections. Her message of peace and love is so deeply connected to her, that she created a resonance that gained her a lot of new supporters. 

This Triangle of Connection is at the heart of our training and coaching programs. In order to create this connection, you need to reach a certain level of clarity and awareness about what it is you want to say, why it’s important to you, and how much of ‘you’ is actually ready and willing to carry that message. Where do you still experience obstacles to speak your truth? In this approach, you can experience that public speaking is not only a skill, but a powerful entrance to personal growth. This creates a double win for you as a professional, that will fire you up for the next step in your career.
